Hello!

As a UI designer who is shifting to car HMI cluster design, I need a better laptop.

I aim to complement 2D UI with 3D elements, effects, and transitions, and I'm not sure how powerful the PC has to be to do it reasonably fast. I used to render with Vray waaaay back in the days when Redshift and other GPU renders did not even exist. A lot has changed for the better, I hope :)

The level of complexity I am aiming for is something like this:

Not too heavy as far as I understand? Will a 4070 mobile be enough, or should I go for a 4080?

4070 mobile should get around 10k in CB2024 - comparable to a desktop 3070Ti.
4080 mobile gets around 18.5k - comparable to a 3090 desktop.

4070 is considerably cheaper, and I'd rather have a light laptop with a good enough performance, than a very fast gaming behemoth. Will it be enough for my needs, or am I missing something?

And on a side note - what do you think about M3 max? Is there a chance it will be two times faster than M1 Max with the new raytracing cores? Then It'll get close to 10k as well and be a worthy contender.

Laptops I am looking at:
Zenbook PRO OLED 4070 ~ 2800 EUR
ROG G14 4080 ~ 3500 EUR
Razer Blade 16 4080 ~ 4400 EUR (this is getting into stupid money territory)
+ potentially MBP M3 Max - if it is fast enough.

The GPU improvements are interesting for sure, but we'll have to test to see how it stacks up against Nvidia's laptop options.

I'd go with the ROG unless the Zenbook PRO's OLED display is attractive enough to sway you. You'll lose around 15-30% performance when dropping to the RTX 4070 compared to the 4080.

Screen, design, build quality - it's all very tempting. I thought it will be more that 15-30%, 4080 scores almost double in CB2024. Thank you for the answer!

How long will it take to render a single frame from the examples above? On say 3070Ti desktop.
